Sarah Schmitz

Voice of the Child

Sarah has been working on the West Coast for the past two years. Originally from Germany, she completed her studies to be a Social Worker in New Zealand, conducting some practical work at West Coast RDA in 2016

In her role as a Social Worker in the Mental Health Sector, Sarah has supported youth and adults in supporting their wellbeing and stabilising or improving their mental health. Sarah believes the key to do so is to work in a
multiprofessional team.

Sarah has participated in several trainings around trauma and resilience, emotions, mindfulness, wellbeing and a companion training around loss and grief.

Sarah is now working as a Social Worker in Schools with the main goal of providing a positive, neutral and confidential space for children, where they can express their emotions and opinions and are being heard.
Her work is child-centred and is based on being able to build and maintain a positive relationship with the child in a positive and age-appropriate manner.

Sarah believes, that every child deserves an opportunity to voice their needs in a safe place and with a professional, that advocates for only their needs.

Let’s include our children in a mediation process, that empowers everyone to voice their needs.
